At-home I’m a Technical Leader in the Strategic Technology Group, part of the Office of the CTO at Riverbed Technology; my focus here will be all things cloud. Before joining Riverbed I worked at Amazon Web Services and at Microsoft where I specialized in information security, compliance, privacy, and policy. During much of that time I traveled the world to speak at numerous cloud computing, telecommunications, information security, and Microsoft technical conferences. I co-authored a book about Windows network security, contributed a chapter to a book on auditing cloud computing, published numerous articles, and conducted technical reviews of several data networking and communications books.

When not lurking in the Internet’s dark alleys and secret passages, I play the French horn and alto horn in three symphonic and brass bands. If you engage me in conversation we’ll likely end up discussing the intersection of technology and culture. Contact me anytime at or on Skype as stvrly.

I enjoy helping organizations navigate the labyrinth of performance challenges, especially when the end result is a smile on their face and a ‘monkey off their back.’  I firmly believe in a scientific approach to engineering; that self-education and learning are critical for today’s IT engineers; and being customer-centric is critical to a vendor’s success. I will be using these three principals in my blog ramblings to pass along my knowledge and experience to those who are eager to learn.
I have 16 years experience as an IT engineer, with 11 years of focused experience with WAN Optimization and Performance engineering technologies in large enterprises. Currently, I fill a Senior Sales Engineer role on the Riverbed Federal team. I live in Virginia with my wonderful wife and our five amazing children.

David Neo

As the Senior Director of Sales Engineering for APJ (Asia Pacific and Japan), I have the pleasure of rolling up my sleeves to help customers and partners optimize ICT infrastructure as well as accelerate their revenues and profits. Besides the opportunity to indulge in a personal passion driving business development and pre-sales in Riverbed since 2006, a professional perk continues to be to lead an extremely talented pre-sales team spanning APJ. I had previously spent the better part of a decade and a half in two companies including Cisco where I directed the APAC Service Provider consulting engineering and business development team, and in Cabletron where I headed the Technical Operations in Asia. My best experiences in conquering the unknown have been jumping out of plane, gliding and scuba diving. I also love reading a good book to challenge and expand my existing mental horizons.
